Nap Grappling
This picture was from just after I moved to my current apartment and still had the TV leaning on a couch that had been left here. I love their intertwining arms while they snuggle here. I’m both sad to uproot them again and excited because I know they’re going to be so happy in their new home and we’re going to be there for quite a while.
…Time for this week’s story…
Anime Charge-Up Move Saves the World
After saving the world multiple times, our heroes face their greatest foe yet. The space warrior, Galimbo, has arrived threatening to blow up the planet. Our heroes have fought valiantly, but now only the mightiest still stand. Galimbo taunts our heroes, but they’ve had enough.
“This guy’s strong. Do you think we can beat him, Hiroji?” said a short, muscular man with green hair.
“You’re right, Kulgai, he’s tough, but we haven’t run into anyone we couldn’t beat when we pull together!” Hiroji dragged himself off the floor, flipping some flowing red hair out of his face.
“I hate to say it, but he’s right. That’s how you wimps always beat me,” said the tall, bald muscle man not far away.
“I’m glad we’re on the same side here, Mad Dog. I think it’s time for an omega blast! If I can charge up enough, it won’t matter how much stronger he is. Can you guys hold him off?”
“How long do you need?” Mad Dog asked Hiroji.
“It’s hard to tell. Buy me all the time you can.” Hiroji took a horse stance. Roaring at the top of his lungs, he held his hands out in front of him. A tiny ball of energy formed between them.
“Come on guys, you got this!” A small group of people watched from afar. The woman in the middle with a big pink bow waved and cheered for them.
“Thanks Tulip! Let’s do this, Mad Dog!”
Galimbo floated a distance away listening to the natives banter. He was severely disappointed, but they gave it their all. Kulgai and Mad Dog flew at Galimbo, energy bursting around them. They roared a mighty roar, fists clenched and aimed at Galimbo. It only took one back-handed strike to send them flying, cratering the ground where they landed, incapacitated. Before Hiroji knew it, Galimbo stood in front of him, laughing.
“You bastard!” He held his stance and kept charging.
“Was that really your plan? I was holding back earlier because I’m trying to have fun. Now what are you going to do? These guys are out cold. Are you just going to sit there and charge up your big move all day?”
“I’ll charge up for as long as I need to!”
“Is this really your trump card? This is how you plan to save your planet? Hold on, let me take a picture.” Galimbo tapped a metal ring on his wrist and a marble popped out. He posed while it floated in front of them, then it displayed the picture it took. Galimbo took a few more, then called friends to share the laughter, then his mother, who he had forgotten to call back earlier.
After a couple hours, Tulip and the group cheering them on and nursing the injured got hungry. They planned to get food, but Galimbo was bored, so he got it for them. It was something called pizza. He ate a few slices in front of Hiroji, describing how delicious they were. Galimbo tried to feed a slice to Hiroji, but he refused.
Several hours later, Hiroji was done charging up, so Galimbo stood in front of him and asked for his best shot. Hiroji fired his deadly blast, but the massive explosion that followed hardly scratched Galimbo.
“That wasn’t enough? Fine! Get ready for another one! A stronger one!” Hiroji was panting and exhausted. Still, he took his stance again and yelled at the top of his lungs, creating another energy ball in front of him.
Galimbo laughed hysterically and called his friends again. They wondered how his voice didn’t give out roaring all day long. They came to see Hiroji for themselves and posed for pictures with him.
Those cheering on Hiroji set up tents to camp out. After several days, Galimbo struck up a conversation with Hiroji’s friends. Hiroji’s best friend, Bud, asked Galimbo why he wanted to blow up their planet. They talked for hours, eventually moving to a local ramen shop for food and drinks. They continued their conversation over several days, even going to an amusement park. Bud asked for Tulip’s help showing off all the great things the planet had to offer.
Since Bud was focused on food, drinks, and fun, Tulip showed Galimbo everything serene and beautiful. They watched the sunset dangling from a cliff’s edge and enjoyed the full moon from a mountaintop. Dolphins jumped out of the water at them as they flew over the ocean’s surface. Whenever Tulip’s clumsy nature almost got her killed, Galimbo was there to save her. Swimming in a river, they tumbled over a waterfall. Galimbo caught her as they fell. She held him close, waterfall pouring on them. They shared their first kiss and made love in the forest under the full moon that night.
Weeks later, they approached Hiroji together. He was still yelling and charging up his attack, now the size of a beach ball.
“Hiroji, I just wanted to tell you that Galimbo isn’t going to destroy the planet. By the time he decided that, we were having a lot of fun, and we fell in love.” Holding hands, Galimbo and Tulip looked lovingly into each other’s eyes.
“What? Tulip! But, he’s a bad guy!” Hiroji’s hair blew dramatically behind him.
“No, actually, he’s great. He’s thinking of making this his home world. Right now, you’re the only one still fighting. You can stop now.”
“Tulip, I don’t understand! I thought…”
“Me too, but you never made a move. You’re a great guy, Hiroji. You’ll find someone. Let’s go, Galimbo.”
“Tulip, wait! Tulip!” Hiroji cried, but Galimbo flew away with Tulip in his arms. Hiroji stopped charging up and fell to his knees. He cried until Bud arrived with a six-pack of beer and sat next to him.
“You okay, Hiroji?” Bud asked. Hiroji shook his head. “Well, at least we saved the planet again. You bought us the time we needed. Way to go, champ.”
Hiroji cried, and cried, and cried…
